Cinematic Creativity: A Look at Pier Paolo Piccioli’s Latest Project

In a bold move that marks the end of an era at Valentino, Pier Paolo Piccioli has ventured into the world of film production. His final project before stepping down as creative director at Valentino involved designing costumes for the latest feature from Italian filmmaker Riccardo Vannuccini. This indie UK-Italian co-production stars the talented Greta Bellamacina, showcasing Piccioli’s creativity in a new medium.

After more than two decades at the helm of Valentino, Pier Paolo Piccioli left the fashion house in March. He initially joined Valentino in 1999 alongside Maria Grazia Chiuri, with whom he later became co-creative director. Following Chiuri’s departure for Dior in 2016, Piccioli took on the role of sole creative director, leaving a lasting impact on the world of fashion.

This isn’t Piccioli’s first foray into cinema. In 2019, he collaborated with filmmaker Luca Guadagnino on the short film “The Staggering Girl,” featuring an all-star cast including Julianne Moore, Kyle MacLachlan, and Mia Goth. The film debuted at the Cannes Film Festival and showcased Piccioli’s couture designs in a cinematic setting.

With a stellar cast and a captivating storyline, the film promises to delve into the depths of imagination and creativity.

In a recent interview, Vannuccini shared his vision for “Things And Other Things,” describing it as an exploration of possibility and time. The film’s characters, Irene and Rocco, find themselves wandering in a world defined by industrial remnants, seeking beauty amidst the scars of the past. Their actions and interactions create a tapestry of emotions and experiences, showcasing the beauty of imperfection and spontaneity.
