Donald Trump’s Titanic Rally: Stirring Controversy

Donald Trump’s rally in Montana on Friday caused quite a stir on social media when Celine Dion’s iconic song ‘My Heart Will Go On,’ from the movie Titanic, was played before the presidential hopeful took the stage. The irony of playing a song about a sinking ship was not lost on observers, with many taking to social media to express their thoughts. One user even speculated whether Trump’s team had a mole from Kamala Harris’s side, purposely trolling Trump with the song choice.

The question of whether Trump’s campaign had the rights to use the song publicly, which is owned by 20th Century Fox, remains unanswered. Dion’s representatives have been reached out to for comment on the matter. This isn’t the first time Trump’s team has used this particular song. It was also played at a rally on Nov 1, 2020, during the final phase of the presidential campaign, prompting reactions from various public figures, including Whoopi Goldberg and Sara Haines.

Aside from the choice of music, Trump’s speech at the rally included misgendering the Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who had recently won a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, and mocking overweight Democrat Senator John Tester. This rally was not the first time Trump has faced backlash for his choice of music. French musician Woodkid recently complained about Trump using his track in a campaign video without permission, labeling it as ironic given the song’s LGBT+ theme.

Trump’s rally in Montana not only stirred controversy with its choice of music but also with the remarks made during his speech. The ongoing legal issues surrounding the use of copyrighted music without permission further add to the negative publicity surrounding the event. It remains to be seen how Trump’s team will address these concerns and whether they will be more vigilant in their choice of music in future events.
