Exploring Park Hoon-jung’s Upcoming Action Film “Tristes Tropiques” with Finecut

Seoul-based production company Finecut has recently announced its collaboration with Korean director Park Hoon-jung for his upcoming action film, “Tristes Tropiques.” This will mark Park’s fourth film under Finecut, with his previous works including “New World” (2013), “V.I.P” (2017), and “The Witch: Part 1 The Subversion” (2018).

“Tristes Tropiques” follows the story of a group of young assassins who are part of the organization “Tristes Tropiques.” These assassins are trained by the enigmatic and ruthless leader known as “Master,” amidst the backdrop of a tropical rainforest. As they navigate through a web of distrust and betrayal, they form a pact to seek vengeance through violent means.

The filming of “Tristes Tropiques” is scheduled to commence in Thailand in September and is anticipated to conclude by December. Finecut has revealed that the film will boast a diverse and multi-national cast, adding to the international appeal of the project.

Park Hoon-jung’s journey in the film industry began as a writer, where he contributed to notable projects such as Ryoo Seung-wan’s “The Unjust” (2010), which earned him the Best Screenplay award at the 15th Fantasia International Film Festival. He also penned the screenplay for Kim Jee-woon’s “I Saw The Devil” (2010).

In 2010, Park made his directorial debut with “The Showdown” and subsequently gained recognition for his acclaimed film “New World” (2013), featuring Lee Jung-jae in a pivotal role. His recent directorial venture, “Night in Paradise” (2021), was selected for the Out of Competition section at the prestigious Venice Film Festival.

With Park Hoon-jung’s impressive track record and Finecut’s backing, “Tristes Tropiques” is poised to deliver a gripping narrative laced with intense action sequences and complex character dynamics. The blend of international talent and Park’s distinctive storytelling style hint at a promising cinematic experience for audiences worldwide.
