Record Breaking Win at the Emmy Awards

In a surprising turn of events, FX’s series Shōgun managed to break the record set by HBO’s John Adams in 2008 by winning an impressive 14 Emmys at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. This accomplishment was a part of a remarkable total of 51 Creative Arts Emmys won by Disney across its various distribution platforms.

FX not only broke its own record with 27 awards, but also emerged as the frontrunner in most drama and comedy series categories for the main Emmy telecast. With Shōgun and The Bear leading the way with 14 and 7 Emmys respectively, FX is poised to surpass its previous achievements. The Bear, in particular, holds the record for most wins in a single year for a comedy series with 10 wins.

Despite strong performances from Netflix and HBO, Disney’s dominance in this year’s Emmy Awards is undeniable. Netflix, with 18 Emmys so far, is hoping to close the gap with acclaimed shows like Baby Reindeer. However, Disney’s 51 Emmy wins have placed it at the top of the rankings by company, far surpassing its 2023 total.

Apart from FX’s stellar performance, other notable achievements at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards include Disney Branded Television’s Disney+ documentary Jim Henson Idea Man winning five awards, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul’s EGOT-clinching win for Hulu’s Only Murders In The Building, and ABC’s Shark Tank winning Outstanding Structured Reality Program. Additionally, the Jimmy Kimmel-hosted Oscars received several accolades, including the first-ever Outstanding Variety Special (Live) trophy.

As the main telecast approaches, all eyes are on FX, Disney, and the other networks and platforms competing for top honors. With Eugene and Dan Levy set to host the main telecast, fans can expect an exciting night of celebrations and surprises. The condensed version of the 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards, dominated by FX, will air on FXX and be available on Hulu, showcasing the best of television excellence.

The 2024 Emmy Awards have already made history with FX’s remarkable win and Disney’s unprecedented success. As the television landscape continues to evolve, these awards serve as a reminder of the creativity and talent within the industry.
