Andrew Cuomo Considering Run for Mayor of New York City

Former Governor Andrew Cuomo is reportedly considering a run for mayor of New York City, according to insiders. Cuomo, who resigned in 2021 amidst sexual harassment allegations, has quietly been polling on his chances of being elected in the event that current Mayor Eric Adams faces a downfall.

With historically low approval ratings and an ongoing investigation into his office’s ties to the Turkish government, Adams’s future as mayor seems uncertain. This has paved the way for Cuomo to consider stepping into the race, as he believes New York City needs an experienced leader.

A Page Six spy spotted Cuomo having dinner with Andrew Stein, a veteran city politician and former mayoral contender, at the Upper East Side’s Caravaggio restaurant. When asked about the meeting, Stein spoke highly of Cuomo, emphasizing his experience and arguing that New York City could benefit from his leadership.

Stein shared a personal connection with Cuomo’s late father, Governor Mario Cuomo, and has known Andrew since the former governor was 14 years old. This long-standing relationship may help foster support and alliances if Cuomo decides to officially announce his candidacy.

During a recent interview, Cuomo responded to speculation about his potential bid for mayor by urging Adams to focus on his job. While flattered by the idea, Cuomo emphasized the importance of allowing the due process system to play out concerning Adams’s situation.

According to a recent poll by Slingshot Strategies, if Adams were to resign, Cuomo would be the leading prospective candidate, with 22% of respondents favoring him. Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and former Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia were the second and third choices, respectively.

Andrew Cuomo’s potential run for mayor of New York City has generated significant interest and speculation. With Adams facing challenges in his tenure, Cuomo’s experience and familiarity with the city’s politics could make him an appealing candidate for voters. However, it remains to be seen whether Cuomo will officially enter the race and how his potential candidacy will be received by the public.
