Are Late Night Sketches Still Relevant?

Are Late Night Sketches Still Relevant?
()

Late night talk shows have always been known for their humorous and entertaining sketches. In a recent episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Fallon brought back the fan-favorite segment “Ew!” with the help of guests Sabrina Carpenter and Zoë Kravitz. This sketch featured Sara, Lucy Garrett, and Hailee Robinson showing off their friendship bracelets, dancing to “Espresso,” and rejecting a stepdad offering panini sandwiches.

While the segment “Ew!” was once a popular feature on the show, it seems to have lost some of its charm over the years. The characters’ attempts to showcase their friendship bracelets and perform a camp talent show dance to “Espresso” came off as awkward and out of touch. The humor that once made the sketch a fan favorite now appeared forced and uninspired.

As the clip of the segment aired to uproarious fan applause, it was hard to ignore the fact that the energy in the room felt somewhat muted. The characters’ interactions seemed contrived, and the comedic timing fell flat. The addition of Sara’s stepfather, Gary, singing “Kumbaya, My Lord” only added to the awkwardness of the sketch.

One of the major issues with the segment was its use of outdated references and jokes. The mention of Sara’s hit single “Please” by Gary felt forced and out of touch with current pop culture trends. The reliance on the “Ew!” catchphrase also seemed tired and overused, failing to evoke the same level of laughter and engagement from the audience.

The resurrection of the “Ew!” segment on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon may have missed the mark in terms of relevance and entertainment value. While the segment once captivated audiences with its quirky humor and memorable characters, its recent revival failed to recapture the magic of its original run. As late-night talk shows continue to evolve and adapt to changing audience tastes, it is essential for them to stay fresh and innovative in their approach to comedy segments.
