BBC Studios and Viaplay Group Expand Their Reach Internationally

BBC Studios has recently launched a new streaming platform targeting children’s TV in Korea. The BBC Kids platform will offer a selection of popular shows such as Hey Duggee, Andy’s Global Adventures, and Go Jetters. This marks the very first time that BBC Studios has entered the Korean market in this capacity. The platform will be available through Genie TV Kids Land, a Korean IPTV service geared towards young children, in partnership with KT. In an effort to cater to the local audience, the service will feature a mix of content in English as well as popular titles dubbed in Korean.

This move by BBC Studios reflects a broader strategy of expanding its commercial presence outside of the UK. The company has been investing in various international markets, including Australia, Taiwan, South Africa, and India, where it already operates kids streaming services. By tapping into the Korean market, BBC Studios is further solidifying its commitment to providing engaging and enriching content for children worldwide.

Viaplay Group Forms Partnership with Talpa Network

On a similar note, Viaplay Group has announced a new partnership with John de Mol’s Talpa Network in the Netherlands. This collaboration entails the rebranding of Talpa Network’s SBS9 linear TV channel as Viaplay TV, starting on April 5. The channel will showcase selected content from Viaplay’s portfolio of premium sports, including live broadcasts of events such as the Japanese Grand Prix featuring Dutch driver Max Verstappen.

In addition to live sports coverage, Viaplay TV will also feature Dutch and international series and films from Talpa Network’s entertainment offerings. This strategic partnership aims to leverage Talpa Network’s established reach in the Netherlands to showcase Viaplay’s premium sports content to a wider audience. It underscores Viaplay Group’s commitment to focusing on core markets and delivering relevant and compelling content to viewers.

Company Strategies and Market Expansion

Both BBC Studios and Viaplay Group’s recent initiatives indicate a shared goal of expanding their reach and market presence internationally. For BBC Studios, the launch of BBC Kids in Korea represents a key milestone in its efforts to establish a strong foothold in the Asian market. By offering a curated selection of children’s programming in both English and Korean, the platform seeks to cater to the diverse preferences of young viewers in Korea.

On the other hand, Viaplay Group’s partnership with Talpa Network signifies a strategic move to strengthen its position in the Netherlands by tapping into the local broadcast market. By rebranding SBS9 as Viaplay TV and showcasing premium sports content, Viaplay Group aims to enhance its offerings and attract a broader audience in the region. These developments highlight the companies’ commitment to innovation and growth in an increasingly competitive media landscape.

BBC Studios and Viaplay Group’s expansion into new markets and partnerships reflect their strategic vision for international growth and audience engagement. By embracing new opportunities and forging strategic alliances, both companies are positioning themselves for success in an ever-evolving media industry. As they continue to invest in content creation and distribution, BBC Studios and Viaplay Group are poised to capture the attention of viewers around the world and drive innovation in the global entertainment landscape.
