Cannes to Host Taiwan’s Golden Horse Awards Projects

Taiwan’s prestigious Golden Horse Awards will be making a significant impact at the Cannes Marché du Film this year. This collaboration, known as ‘Golden Horse Goes to Cannes’, is supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture and promises to showcase some exciting upcoming projects from Taiwanese filmmakers.

Five projects will be presented at the market, each offering a unique take on storytelling and showcasing the diverse talent within Taiwan’s film industry. Directors such as Chen Yu-hsun, Yang Ya-che, Huang Xi, Giddens Ko, and John Hsu will be at the forefront of this showcase.

John Hsu’s paranormal comedy ‘Dead Talents Society’ has already attracted significant investment from Sony Pictures International Productions. This project, which also secured worldwide distribution rights, is a follow-up to Hsu’s successful debut ‘Detention’, which won multiple awards at the Golden Horse Awards in 2019.

Yang Ya-che’s project ‘The Chronicles of Libidoists’ promises to bring a contemporary twist to themes of sex and love. Inspired by ‘The Little Mermaid’, this film is expected to push boundaries and challenge traditional storytelling norms.

Giddens Ko will be presenting ‘Kung Fu’, a modern fantastic adventure focusing on the journey of two high school students. With a stellar cast including Leon Dai, Kai Ko, and Berant Zhu, this film is set to captivate audiences with its unique blend of action and storytelling.

Chen Yu-hsun and ‘A Foggy Tale’

Chen Yu-hsun’s ‘A Foggy Tale’ takes audiences back to Taiwan’s White Terror period, following a young girl on a dangerous mission to redeem her family’s remains. This project promises to shed light on a dark period in Taiwan’s history while showcasing the resilience of the human spirit.

The ‘Golden Horse Goes to Cannes’ initiative is a testament to Taiwan’s growing influence in the global film industry. By featuring these diverse and captivating projects at one of the world’s most prestigious film events, Taiwan continues to solidify its position as a powerhouse of talent and creativity in the cinematic world.
