Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2 Poised for Record-Breaking Opening Weekend

The highly anticipated sequel to Disney/Pixar’s hit movie Inside Out is generating a lot of buzz, with sources indicating that it is set to have the highest opening at the domestic box office so far this year. Tracking numbers suggest that Inside Out 2 could surpass recent releases like Dune Part Two and Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, with a projected 3-day opening between $80M-$85M.

After a challenging period during the Covid era, Pixar seems to be making a strong comeback with Inside Out 2. Previous releases like last summer’s Elemental and the 2022 Toy Story spinoff Lightyear had more modest opening weekends, but Inside Out 2 is expected to reignite interest in the studio. Scheduled to open over the traditional Fathers Day weekend in June, the sequel is attracting a diverse audience, particularly teen girls and moms.

Inside Out 2 takes viewers back into the fascinating world of Riley, now a teenager facing a new set of emotions and challenges. While familiar emotions like Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust, and Sadness make a return, the sequel introduces two new characters: Envy and Anxiety. The early footage screened at CinemaCon received a positive response, with many praising it as a significant improvement over the first movie, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

The success of Inside Out 2 can be attributed to the skilled direction of Pete Docter and Ronnie Del Carmen, who also worked on the original film. The talented voice cast, including Amy Poehler, Tony Hale, Lewis Black, Liza Lapira, Phyllis Smith, Ayo Edebiri, and Maya Hawke, bring the characters to life and add depth to the emotional journey of the story.

Overall, Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2 is shaping up to be a record-breaking success at the box office, signaling a triumphant return for the beloved animation studio. With its engaging story, lovable characters, and universal themes, the sequel is sure to resonate with audiences of all ages and continue to cement Pixar’s reputation as a pioneer in animated filmmaking.
