French Remake of Israeli Drama Series “The Baker and the Beauty” in the Works

A new remake of the popular Israeli romcom drama series “The Baker and the Beauty” is in production for France’s TF1, featuring French singer-songwriter Amir Haddad in the lead role. This marks Keshet’s first scripted format adaptation in France, following the success of the show which was previously remade by ABC in the U.S. The shooting for the French version will commence this week in Paris, bringing the beloved story to a new audience.

The series follows the story of Benjamin Mercier (played by Haddad) and Louise Meyer (portrayed by Ludmilla von Claer), two individuals from different worlds who cross paths unexpectedly. While Louise enjoys a glamorous life as a model traveling the world and attending parties, Benjamin is a humble baker who starts his day early baking baguettes at his family’s bakery. Their chance encounter in a restaurant men’s room sets off a chain of events that turn Benjamin’s life upside down.

Amir Haddad, known for his participation in The Voice France and Eurovision Song Contest in 2016, takes on one of his first TV roles as the lead in this series. The show is directed by Hervé Mimran and written by Caroline Franc, Marion Michau, Jane Rioufol, Léa Lando, and Ichem Saïbi. Banijay France’s Marathon Studio and Terence Films are working behind the scenes to bring this adaptation to life, ensuring that it captures the essence of the original Israeli series.

“The Baker and the Beauty” originally aired on Israel’s Channel 12 for three successful seasons, garnering praise from both audiences and critics. Despite the ABC remake being canceled after one season due to low ratings, the show has managed to resonate with viewers worldwide. Remakes have been produced in Russia, the Netherlands, and India, showcasing the universal appeal and relatable themes of the story. Distributor Keshet International has licensed the original Israeli series to Amazon through a global deal, indicating its widespread popularity.
