Studiocanal and The Picture Company Acquire Rights to French Film ‘Rodeo’

Studiocanal and The Picture Company have recently obtained the rights to the French film ‘Rodeo’ with plans to adapt the story for a U.S. audience. The original film, directed by Lola Quivoron, gained recognition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022, winning the Coup de Coeur Jury Award in the Un Certain Regard Section. Drawing from Quivoron’s experiences within the urban dirt bike community in a French city, ‘Rodeo’ delves into the underground passion for bike-life gatherings and racing.

Plot and Themes

Set in the outskirts of Paris, the film follows a young female rider as she navigates the heavily masculine world of street motocross racing. Joining a gang, she rises through the ranks while planning a daring heist to test the group’s ambition and skill. ‘Rodeo’ also serves as an intimate exploration of a woman’s search for family and belonging in a male-dominated environment, adding layers of depth to the storyline.

The upcoming remake of ‘Rodeo’ will be reimagined for American audiences, featuring a prominent role for a young actress. The Picture Company, known for their work on ‘System Crasher’ and ‘Role Play,’ will be spearheading the project in collaboration with Studiocanal. Producers Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona will be at the helm, with Ron Halpern and Shana Eddy overseeing the production. Lola Quivoron and Charles Gillibert, the original film’s producer, will serve as Executive Producers on the project.

Studiocanal has been actively involved in a variety of film projects, including the recent releases of ‘Wicked Little Sisters’ and ‘Back To Black.’ With ‘Paddington in Peru’ set for a global rollout in November, the studio continues to demonstrate a commitment to diverse and engaging storytelling. Additionally, their partnership with The Picture Company on ‘Role Play’ and the upcoming James McAvoy-starrer ‘Control’ showcase their dedication to delivering quality entertainment to audiences worldwide.

The acquisition of ‘Rodeo’ by Studiocanal and The Picture Company signifies a new chapter for the film as it undergoes a transformation for American viewers. With a compelling storyline and themes that resonate with audiences, the remake is poised to captivate viewers with its exploration of underground street motocross racing and themes of identity and belonging. Be on the lookout for more updates on this exciting project in the near future.
