The Evolution of Ricky Martin’s Acting Career

In a recent interview on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, Martin credited Mexico for his preparation in acting, mentioning his experience in theater, TV series, and film in the country. This solid foundation ultimately led him to star in the musical comedy Mamá Ama el Rock in Mexico City after leaving Menudo.

Following his success in Mexico, Martin ventured into the world of telenovelas with his role in Alcanzar Una Estrella II, a TelevisaUnivision production where he played a member of a pop band. The series’ popularity paved the way for Martin to star in a film adaptation, showcasing his versatility as an actor. Subsequently, Martin joined the cast of ABC’s General Hospital in 1994, taking on the role of Miguel Morez. Reflecting on his time on the soap opera, Martin emphasized the challenges of daytime television, acknowledging the dedication required to learn multiple scenes each day.

During his stint on General Hospital, Martin shared the screen with the talented Lilly Melgar, who portrayed Lily Corinthos in the soap. When asked about his favorite scene partner, Martin spoke highly of Melgar, praising her acting skills and on-screen presence. This collaboration added depth to Martin’s portrayal of his character and contributed to the overall success of the show.

In his latest role on Apple TV+’s Palm Royale, Martin plays Robert Diaz, a bartender at the upscale country club where the series is set. Working alongside comedy icon Carol Burnett, Martin brings depth and authenticity to his character, showcasing his growth as an actor. Palm Royale showcases Martin’s range and versatility, allowing him to explore complex characters in a historical setting. With co-star Kristen Wiig portraying Maxine Simmons, a determined woman breaking into high society in 1969, Martin’s performance adds another layer of intrigue to the series.
