The Success of Netflix Studios Albuquerque

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos recently announced the completion of a significant expansion at Netflix Studios Albuquerque. This expansion represents a substantial investment in New Mexico’s production industry, totaling nearly $900 million since 2019. The original hub was established in 2018, making it Netflix’s first acquisition of a production studio complex. The facility boasted eight sound stages on 28 acres and hosted big-name productions such as The Avengers, Breaking Bad, and Sicario.

The decision to expand the studio was fueled by a desire to enhance Netflix’s creative output and produce more compelling content for its global audience. The new facility features four additional sound stages, three mills, a production office, two stage support buildings, and two dedicated backlot areas spread across 108 acres. This expansion solidifies Netflix’s commitment to fostering a thriving production ecosystem in New Mexico.

In addition to its creative endeavors, Netflix Studios Albuquerque has prioritized sustainability. The expanded facility incorporates various eco-friendly features, including on-site solar and battery storage systems, geothermal heating and cooling, all-electric appliances, and 50 electric vehicle fast chargers. These initiatives aim to reduce the studio’s carbon footprint and lower operating costs, reflecting Netflix’s commitment to environmentally responsible practices.

Since acquiring Albuquerque Studios, Netflix has found New Mexico to be an exceptional location for production. The state’s diverse landscapes, skilled workforce, and supportive community have made it a prime filming destination for the streaming giant. Notable projects filmed at the studio include popular titles like Stranger Things, The Harder They Fall, Army of the Dead, and El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. Netflix’s direct investment in New Mexico productions has exceeded $575 million and continues to grow with each new endeavor.

Netflix has also made an effort to engage with the local community through initiatives like Netflix in Your Neighborhood. This website encourages fans to explore filming locations used in various Netflix projects across New Mexico. With over 100 filming locations and cultural sites from eight different titles, including Stranger Things and Better Call Saul, Netflix is bridging the gap between its on-screen content and real-world experiences. This approach aims to contribute culturally to the state and create excitement around Netflix’s productions.

In his remarks, Ted Sarandos expressed gratitude to key figures who have supported Netflix’s endeavors in New Mexico. He thanked Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, Senator Ben Ray Luján, and Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller for their ongoing support. Sarandos also acknowledged the contributions of vendor partners and the 2,800 construction workers who played a crucial role in the studio’s expansion. Their collective efforts have helped Netflix Studios Albuquerque thrive and continue to produce high-quality content for audiences worldwide.

Overall, Netflix Studios Albuquerque’s success story serves as a testament to the power of strategic investment, creative collaboration, and community engagement. As the studio embarks on new projects and ventures, it remains committed to pushing boundaries, embracing sustainability, and showcasing the best of New Mexico’s film industry.
