Warner Bros Discovery’s 2024 Paris Olympic Games Coverage Plans

Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) has recently announced its extensive plans for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, set to commence later this month in the French capital. The company has pledged to provide “wall-to-wall” coverage of the event, ensuring that viewers across the globe have access to all the action. Eurosport, the leading sports network under the WBD umbrella, will be broadcasting the games in 47 markets and 19 languages through platforms such as Max and Discovery+ as well as on its various television channels. This coverage will amount to a staggering 3,800 hours, including all 329 medal ceremonies, and the opening and closing ceremonies, which will be offered in HDR for an enhanced viewing experience.

One of the key highlights of WBD’s coverage plans is the impressive lineup of presenters and commentators who will be bringing the Olympic action to audiences around the world. The roster includes a mix of TV talent and sports stars, such as Boris Becker, Fabien Hambüchen, Laura Woods, Tom Daley, and many others from different European countries. These renowned personalities will be reporting from a specially designed WBD House rooftop studio located near the iconic Eiffel Tower, in addition to local market studios. With a total of 400 commentators contributing to WBD’s coverage, viewers can expect in-depth insights and analysis throughout the duration of the event.

Enhanced Streaming Experience

In line with the current digital trends, WBD is also focusing on providing a seamless streaming experience for viewers who prefer online platforms. Each of the 32 Olympic sports will have its own dedicated page on the Max platform, allowing fans to easily access specific events of their interest. Moreover, Gold medal alerts will keep viewers informed about upcoming events, ensuring they never miss out on the action. Additionally, 15 sports will feature timeline marker functionality, enabling users to navigate to key moments swiftly. The streaming service will offer a curated blend of live events, highlights, and additional coverage, available on simulcasts of Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 via the apps.

To further engage viewers and provide a comprehensive Olympic experience, WBD is introducing innovative content offerings. Snapchat will feature behind-the-scenes content, offering a glimpse into the athletes’ world. A free daily show will be available to viewers in the UK and France, providing unique storytelling elements. Additionally, Looney Tunes characters will present “Sports Made Simple” shorts, explaining the techniques and performances required to succeed in various Olympic disciplines. Furthermore, a documentary titled “4 August – An Olympic Odyssey” will be launched on Eurosport, Max, and Discovery+, analyzing significant moments from Olympic history that took place on that date.

Excitement Building Up

Scott Young, Group SVP Content, Production, and Business Operations at WBD Sports Europe, expressed his excitement for the upcoming coverage, emphasizing the company’s commitment to delivering top-notch content to audiences. WBD aims to bring fans closer to the action and stories of the Olympics, leveraging its expertise and experience in sports broadcasting. By offering new in-app enhancements, customizable features, and original content, the platforms – Max and Discovery+ – are set to provide viewers with an unparalleled Olympic companion experience, driving greater fandom, entertainment, and passion for the games.

Rising Popularity of Olympic Coverage

The success of WBD’s previous Olympic coverage in Tokyo, where over 175 million viewers tuned in through digital and TV platforms, underscores the growing popularity of the event. With more than 200 million viewers watching through sub-license agreements with national broadcasters, the Paris Olympics are poised to attract a massive global audience. As the countdown to the event begins, anticipation is running high for what promises to be an unforgettable celebration of sports and athleticism.
