Wolf Hall Returns with a Stellar Cast: Harriet Walter and Timothy Spall Join the Ranks

The highly anticipated return of Wolf Hall is finally here, and it brings with it an incredibly talented cast. Harriet Walter and Timothy Spall have officially joined the ranks of this period drama series, which is a collaboration between the BBC and Masterpiece PBS. Alongside already-established actors such as Mark Rylance, Damian Lewis, Jonathan Pryce, Kate Phillips, and Lilit Lesser, this gifted duo will surely leave audiences captivated.

In Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, the six-part series currently being filmed all across the UK, Harriet Walter takes on the role of Lady Margaret Pole, while Timothy Spall portrays the Duke of Norfolk. Notably, Mark Rylance will be reprising his role as the prominent character Thomas Cromwell, and Damian Lewis will return as King Henry VIII. Also making their return to the series is Jonathan Pryce as Cardinal Wolsey, Kate Phillips as Henry’s third wife Jane Seymour, and Lilit Lesser as Princess Mary, the daughter of Henry and his first wife Catherine of Aragon.

Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light offers viewers insight into the final four years of Cromwell’s life, documenting his extraordinary transformation from a self-made man to the most influential and feared figure of his time. This highly anticipated adaptation was met with a tragic twist when Hilary Mantel, the celebrated British author, passed away last year at the age of 70. Director Peter Kosminsky vowed to proceed with the series as a memorial to her remarkable legacy.

The previous two books in this acclaimed trilogy, Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies, were successfully adapted by Masterpiece and the BBC into a single series in 2015. For Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, Peter Kosminsky once again takes the directorial helm, while Peter Straughan expertly adapts the story for television. The series is produced by Playground and Company Pictures, with Colin Callender and Noëlette Buckley serving as Executive Producers for Playground, Kosminsky, Lucy Richer for the BBC, and Susanne Simpson for Masterpiece.

Drawing from Hilary Mantel’s brilliant writing and Peter Straughan’s adept adaptation, the casting director Robert Sterne has curated an exceptional ensemble for the series. According to Kosminsky himself, “they’ve been drawn by the quality of Hilary Mantel’s writing and Peter Straughan’s adroit adaptation.” Led by the incredible talents of Mark Rylance and Damian Lewis, Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light promises to be a visual and emotive journey that captures the essence of the source material.

The return of Wolf Hall has left fans eagerly anticipating the release of Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light. With an outstanding cast that includes Harriet Walter and Timothy Spall, this period drama series is poised to captivate audiences once again. As the final chapter in Thomas Cromwell’s remarkable journey unfolds, viewers can expect an unparalleled viewing experience fueled by the genius of Hilary Mantel’s writing and the exceptional talent behind the scenes.
